The Self is certainly there as Brahman but it is for children doing yoga to determine its potential. In living one's life in the real world there is only God to relate to in bhakti. However, only a purnavatar has the capacity to realise the Self to then be able to act to perection so as to be liberated.
Howsoever deeply the bhakti is felt from time to time in Vishista-advaita attachment to God is wrong as it is counterproductive to the quest for liberation which requires one to be totally free in order to live in truth.
